Default Can't sleep, advice please? - 31st July 2010

I've been having trouble sleeping lately. Been to a clinic, but they gave me meds which I won't take. (Don't want to develop this kind of habit.) I've tried warm milk, low light conditions before bed, no computer for at least an hour before bed, and still not having much success. The doctor said it could be related to stress. Ironically, a good night's sleep would probably give me the clear mind to help solve that! Any helpful suggestions appreciated as I'm finding myself drinking more and more coffee to get through the day...

Lay off the fags, don't do meth or such, take exercise in the evening, no coffee, not much tea, hot bath or shower before bed, read a book with an easy going subject that interests you so you free your mind of 5hitty thoughts. If that fails - have a wank.

Try not to rely on alcohol often though short term having a few spirits can help. Say half a pint or so. Until you become a lush.

I have to tell you now that no such undertaking has been received and that consequently I will start drinking again as soon as possible.

have the occasion reflexology footrub

Spa often get the job done

An alternative to LT's wan.k is to pick some random yet kindred spirit in LKF and have someone finish the deed with you

You obviously have no idea WHO you are fooking with!!!

Lay off the coffee. Go for a run in the evening to wear yourself out. Have a can of Guinness. Fall into unconsciousness.

Is this advice valid if trying to sleep in an airport terminal?

exercise - the curse of hong kong for many people is the complete lack of balance between mental and physical exhaustion... tire your body out physically and it will help balance out the mental strain that you're under....

beyond that, for me, its just disclipline... coming off a work stint of 20 - 22 hours days, i find it takes a few nights of forcing myself to bed early and just refusing to move until i go to sleep... getting up nice and early to exercise tires me out enough to be back in a reasonable sleep pattern within a few days...

I've tried to do some exercise in the evenings, but i don't do it to the point of exhaustion. I've tried a simple form of meditation which does work like controlling my breathing and picturing increasing numbers in my head, although if i've had a very stressful/busy day this doesn't work as my mind drifts off elsewhere. I haven't read in bed for a while - I normally turn on the tele and fall asleep watching it.
I'm going to try to do more exercise tonight. I really don't want to take the meds so any suggestions are appreciated. Drinking myself into unconsciousness is not an option, funny though! :P

dont fall asleep watching telly - make going to bed an actual course of action... switch off the telly, turn off the light and go to sleep...

falling asleep watching the telly is never a good plan to get a good night's sleep...
